The Meaning Behind the Name...

When I was thinking about what to name of my practice, I knew I wanted to choose a verb. Verbs convey action and that is exactly what therapy is, it takes action and work. It is not a passive experience or process.

The verb “to root” means to turn over, dig up, or discover and bring to light; to establish deeply and firmly.

The verb “flourish” means to grow and develop in a healthy or vigorous way, especially due to the establishment of a favourable environment; to thrive.

It is my philosophy that therapy (the modalities that I gravitate towards anyways) is a process involving the collaborative exploration of experiences that have shaped you as a person and how these experiences are showing up in your present day. Brene Brown writes “only when we are brave enough to explore the darkness will we discover the infinite power of our light”. I want to help you explore your darkness - you lead the way and I’ll be your anchor in the storm and the beacon of light as you wade through it. It is through the exploration of the dark and difficult parts of your past and present where can you begin to understand yourself better - why you think, feel and behave the way you do, why you relate to others the way you do - and begin to make changes. It is my belief that only when we have “rooted” through the past, and have established and firmly rooted yourself in your values can we really begin to “flourish” in our present and into our future.
