Meet Laura
Registered Social Worker
Hi! I'm Laura (she/her). I'm a Registered Social Worker in good standing with both the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Services Workers and the Ontario Association of Social Workers. I graduated from the University of Toronto with my Master of Social Work degree, having specialized in mental health and addiction.
I've always had a love for learning and I consider myself to be a curious and inquisitive person. This love for learning and my desire to provide the best support for my clients has driven me to pursue further certifications in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT). We are all unique and complex human beings, and in light of that, I aspire to be adaptable in my therapeutic approach in an effort to meet your needs.
I identify as an empath, highly sensitive person (HSP), and an introvert and have grown to embrace these qualities of my humanness. I am passionate about supporting other empaths, HSPs, and introverts on their journey as they learn to navigate feeling and thinking deeply in a highly stimulating world.
I have 8 years of experience supporting individuals facing a variety of mental health and life challenges including depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress symptoms, life transitions, relationship challenges, substance use, grief/loss, emotional regulation and self-esteem/self-worth challenges. My philosophy is that my role as the therapist is a blend of providing support and insight, offering perspective, teaching coping skills, and asking thought-provoking questions as a means to help you live a more meaningful life.
When I'm not in the office, you can find me exploring new hiking trails, gardening, walking my dog Maeve, hanging out with my friends and family, and chasing after my two nephews. I would say that I recharge best with a cup of tea and a good book.
